The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel opened an exhibition on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the USA during a reception at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

„The ties between Bulgaria and the United States, which are based on mutual respect, trust and friendship between the people, and which we all continue to strengthen and build on, remain intransient,“ Maria Gabriel declared in her official speech to the guests. She emphasized that it is our vocation to write the history of the friendship between the two countries of the Old and New World, determined to build together a common future of security and stability, on both sides of the broad Atlantic.

„I deeply believe that in today’s exposition everyone can discover our history, memory, hopes and dreams. This legacy is our responsibility, which we must preserve and pass on to the next generations,“ the Deputy Prime Minister further said.

The Ambassador of the United States to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten also made a greeting and highly appreciated the bilateral relations. Among the official guests at the event were the President of the National Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov, Vice President Iliana Iotova, as well as foreign diplomats and statesmen.

The exposition is a part of the year – long programme of solemn events and cultural manifestations, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It has been prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the assistance of the State Cultural Institute and the Executive Agency for Bulgarians abroad. The bilingual documentary exhibition is presenting topics, including the first accredited diplomatic and consular representatives, agreements concluded and high – level and top – level visits made, bilateral trade and investments, cultural interaction, partnership in the field of education and science, people – to – people contacts, etc.

The materials used in the exhibition have been selected by the State Archives Agency in cooperation with BAS (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) and BTA (Bulgarian News Agency).
