Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and Argentina

On the 26th of June 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria had the honour to host political consultations with the Republic of Argentina – the first in 12 years.
On the Bulgarian side, the consultations were led by the Director General for Bilateral Relations, Mr. Petar Kraychev, and on the side of Argentina – by the Deputy Secretary for Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Religious Affairs of Argentina, Mr. Claudio Rosenzweig. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Argentina at the Republic of Bulgaria H.E. Alfredo Atanasoff has also taken part in the meeting.
Mr. Kraychev described the holding of the current political discussions as an excellent opportunity to give a new impetus to the shared aspiration to building on the bilateral cooperation. A wide range of political and sectoral issues between the two countries were discussed, as well as significant regional and global issues. The good level of interaction in international organizations and forums was highly appreciated and the existence of an untapped potential for cooperation in the field of the trade and economic relations was noted, which led to the shared desire for its promotion. A review was also made of the consistent activity to expand the contractual and legal basis of the Bulgarian – Argentine relations.
The topic of the role and place of women in politics and public life was discussed, with Mr. Rosenzweig pointing out that Argentina has a deliberate policy of nominating women, proven experts in the respective fields, for various high positions in international organizations. The Bulgarian experience in a number of spheres of the public and political life, including the diplomatic service, was also shared, as well as the finding that Bulgaria is one of the top countries in terms of the percentage of women employed in the information technology sector and female heads of enterprises.
A special attention was paid to the excellent Bulgarian – Argentine partnership in the field of the Antarctic research. It was also pointed out that Argentina was the first country in Latin America Bulgaria has established diplomatic relations with in 1931, and which is home of the largest Bulgarian community in the region today, making it a natural bridge for further rapproachement and strengthening of friendship between our two countries.
