The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel has taken part in a discourse on the priorities of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

„Spain is a strong ally, which Bulgaria values and I count on a good cooperation with the Presidency for the accession of Bulgaria to Schengen,“ Gabriel declared to the Ambassador of Spain to Bulgaria Alejandro Polanco Mata, who was the host of the event.

Among the participants in the event were Ambassadors of Member States and partner countries outside of the European Union, as well as the Head of the Representative of the European Commission to Bulgaria Tsvetan Kyulanov.

„We support the future active work of the Spanish country in the context of the green transition. The use of renewable energy and the creation of hydrogen valleys is a priority,“ Maria Gabriel further stated during the discussion. The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that she is counting on Spain to double the number of hydrogen valleys in Europe and welcomed the ambition of the country to promote social and economic justice, which will help the competitiveness of the European companies.

Among the highlights of the speech of the Deputy Prime Minister were the encouragement of the EU strategic autonomy and the support of Bulgaria for actions in this direction, as well as the topics of artificial intelligence, deep technologies and regional and innovative valleys.

Gabriel also put an emphasis on the strategic interest of the European Union to continue its full support for Ukraine.

„It was a strong symbol that the Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez has launched the Presidency in Kiev,“ she highlighted.

In parallel with this, Ukraine is needing our continuous help and support on its path to integration to the European Union.

„For us to be united and solidary is the most important thing for the whole European Union.“ Maria Gabriel concluded.
