Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Milkov met with the newly elected Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the Orthodox Churches of the Bulgarian Exarchate in Istanbul and the Foundation of the Church of St. George in Istanbul. He also met with the President of the Orthodox Church of St. George in Edirne. The delegation of the Board of Trustees was led by its chairperson Dimitri Yotef.
Minister Milkov congratulated the members of the delegation on their election as Trustees of the Foundations. He stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highly appreciates the activities of the two foundations for the welfare of the Bulgarian Orthodox community and for the preservation of the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage in Türkiye. He welcomed their efforts to continue this noble activity and to develop relations with Bulgarian state institutions.
Nikolay Milkov confirmed the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the future activities of the foundations as the main guardian of the Bulgarian identity and the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage in Istanbul and Edirne.
Dimitri Yotef appreciated the visit of the Board of Trustees to Bulgaria as extremely fruitful. He thanked the Bulgarian state institutions for their hospitality. He expressed his confidence that the cooperation with the Bulgarian State will continue on concrete issues.
At the meeting a number of topics were discussed which have practical implications for the activities of the Board of Trustees for the preservation of the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage on the territory of the Republic of Türkiye, for the preservation of the Bulgarian spirit of the community of the Bulgarians of Constantinople, for the relations with Bulgaria and for their prosperity and well-being.
