Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and Lithuania at a Political Director level

On June 1, political consultations were held in a videoconference format between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and Lithuania at aPolitical Director level. The consultations were led by Director General Maya Dobreva and her Lithuanian counterpart Raimonda Murmokaite.

The EU's relations with Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Eastern Partnership, the Western Balkans, the Indo-Pacific region and topics of the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy were discussed with a focus on fulfilling the commitments stemming from the CSDP Civilian Dimension Compact. Similarities were found in positions on a wide range of issues, including the policy towards the EU's eastern neighbours and the assessment of the situation in the Western Balkans, a prerequisite for continued coordination on issues important to both countries within the EU.

In particular, on the topic of Russia, was shared the continuing validity of the five guiding principles in relations with them. Regarding the European perspective of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, the Bulgarian national position was confirmed that progress can be achieved only by providing the necessary guarantees for the implementation of the Agreement between Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia of 2017.
