22 October 2013 Diplomatic CalendarMinister Vigenin will participate in the General Affairs EU Council meeting in Luxembourg on 22 October 2013. The ministers will discuss the preparations of the European Council on 24-25 October 2013, which is part of the thematic sessions on combating the crisis and restoring economic growth and employment. Highlights of the discussion are the digital economy, innovation and services, economic and social policy, the enhanced economic cooperation and the completion of the Banking Union and the implementation of the European Semester. During the meeting, ministers will discuss the macro-regional strategies and their added value to improve the economic, social and territorial cohesion. They will also focus on the situation with the growing influx of illegal immigrants and asylum seekers in the EU and the guidelines to be provided by the European Council on taking appropriate measures at EU level. It is expected that at the meeting the Council will decide on the opening of an accession negotiations with Turkey on Chapter 22 "Regional Policy”.
