Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bulgarian Platform for International Development signed a Cooperation Agreement

10 February 2015 News

Bulgaria as a EU member state has commitments in the field of development cooperation, which we endeavor to fulfill, despite the challenges of the economic crisis and the limited budgetary resources for development policy. Considering the common goal, the NGO sector is our key partner without which development policy can not be fully formulated and implemented, said  Minister Daniel Mitov at the official ceremony on signing a Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bulgarian Platform for International Development (BPID).

Bulgaria will be able to benefit from this partnership in all its aspects, said Ventsislav Kirkov, Chairman of the Management Board of the organization, who signed the Agreement on behalf of BPID. He pointed out that the members of the organization are recognized both in our country and abroad and cooperation with them gives access to targeted countries to Bulgaria. According to him, civil society organizations, united in the Bulgarian Platform, have specific experience in the Western Balkans, the Black Sea region, Central Asia and Africa.

Minister Mitov noted that the upcoming launch of the European Year for Development in Bulgaria is an additional reason for further expansion and deepening of partnership with civil society organizations, academia and business organizations in the implementation of the objectives of the medium-term program. "We appreciate the contribution of the Bulgarian Platform for International Development in the preparation of the National Programme for marking the European Year for Development 2015," he said.

According to the Foreign Minister, the signing of the Cooperation Agreement with BPID will contribute to strengthening the interaction of the Foreign Ministry with the NGO sector and will provide a good opportunity for exchange of information and best practices, as well as better use of the expertise of civil society organizations for the implementation of development policy.

I hope that during the European Year for Development, the cooperation with our partners from the civil society will develop and strengthen in the name of the great goal - raising the visibility of EU’s development policy and the contribution of Bulgaria within the Bulgarian society, he said in conclusion.

COOPERATION AGREEMENT

The Bulgarian Platform for International Development (BPID) was established in 2009. It brings together 22 NGOs, working in various fields, among which development education, health, gender issues, environment and sustainability.
