"You left an important mark in the Bulgarian- Cuban relations and you continue to work for their development. For decades your life is dedicated to bringing together our two nations," Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin said at today’s official ceremony held at the MFA, where he conferred the "Golden Laurel Bough" award on Teresita Capote Camacho, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Sofia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ highest honour is awarded for her personal contributions and achievements in the development and strengthening of the bilateral relations.

Minister Vigenin pointed out the active charitable and cultural activities of Ambassador Teresita Camacho, emphasizing that each of them is marked by a feeling of sincere friendship and sympathy for our country. "Today's event is another proof of the traditional friendly relations between Bulgaria and Cuba, as well as the mutual and lasting interest in achieving better understanding between our people," he added.

According to the Foreign Minister, there are a number of prospects for closer cooperation between Bulgaria and Cuba. We have an idea to renew the practice of holding regular political consultations between the Foreign Offices of the two countries, he said. Minister Vigenin added that there are active contacts also within the framework of the parliamentary cooperation.

Ambassador Teresita Camacho expressed gratitude for the received honour. "For 52 years, since my first arrival in Bulgaria, my personal and professional life have always been connected to this country, which has become my second home," she said. Ambassador Teresita Camacho stressed that in the time the two countries have built strong friendships beyond geographical distance.

In her words, the relations between Bulgaria and Cuba are becoming more active in seeking opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest. "This award spurred me to continue to devote every minute to the wonderful work on bringing together the two nations and strengthening the ties between our countries," said the Cuban Ambassador.
