Repeal of the state of emergency in Egypt

20 November 2013 News

In connection with the repeal of the state of emergency and the curfew in Egypt, MFA withdraws the recommendations, restricting the movements along the Mediterranean coast (excluding North Sinai), to the oases Siua, Baharia and Dakhla, as well as to Luxor (the road Ain Sokhna - Hurghada - Safaga - Qena near the Red Sea) and Aswan.

Regardless, it should be acknowledged that the situation in the country remains tense and traveling to certain provinces should only be done when absolutely necessary. These provinces are: the northern Sinai region and cities along the Suez Canal , which is particularly true for the city of Ismailia , in the valley of the Nile from Cairo to Qena - in particular in the provinces of Asyut , Minya and Sohag, as well as in thesouthwest part of the country, near the border of Egypt with Sudan and Libya.

Due to the extremely high risk levels, people should avoid making trips from Egypt to Gaza - the capabilities of the Bulgarian Embassy in Cairo for providing assistance to get out of Gaza and to enter back the Egyptian territory are limited.

When traveling to Egypt, it is advisable to observe the following:

• before the trip to makepre-registration at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Cairo, providing information about the planned stay as follows: passenger names, location, period of stay, phone and email address. Registration can be done by phone or through the e-mail of the embassy;

• at all times carry identification documents (passport);

• take into account the likelihood of protests and other mass events and avoid places where such are held;

• travel by bus from Cairo and Hurghada to Luxor and from Luxor to Aswan should be undertaken only in the composition of the special convoys and by following the tourist police requirementsfor safe movement;

• do not take under any circumstances photos of public gatherings, events or objects, pertaining to security.
