In connection with the Boevski case, MFA informs of the following:

24 October 2013 News

According to the Brazilian legal system, decisions for expulsion from the country are taken for all foreigners convicted of drug trafficking. The decision is made by the Minister of Justice of Brazil, confirmed by a federal judge on deportation and the federal police.

The information for the release of Mr. Gulubin Boevski was received by the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria at 4.00 pm on 22 October 2013 (11.00 pm EET) from the prison in the town of Itai. An hour and a half later Mr. Boevski departed to Bulgaria and according to Ambassador Chavdar Nikolov, the Embassy was not informed of the latter in advance.

The temporary passport is issued on 11.10.2013 at the request of Mr. Boevski, justified by the need to carry an identity document for the purpose of recruitment by the end of the period of serving the sentence.

In all cases related to Bulgarian citizens abroad, our consular offices are providing the necessary assistance, including through the issuance of documents.

The Bulgarian authorities have not been informed in advance by the Brazilian authorities for the impending release of Mr. Gulubin Boevski. At present, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria to Brazil is gathering the necessary additional information on the case.
