Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov meets representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe

On 29 May 2024, Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov received representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). They discussed the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament in Bulgaria on 9 June.

Mr. Kondov briefed the OSCE-ODIHR representatives on the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that Bulgarian citizens abroad have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. He informed them about the requirements for opening polling stations for the European Parliament elections abroad and the preparation of the electoral process. Stressed the existence of the necessary will, legal framework, resources and expertise to conduct free and fair European Parliament elections in accordance with the highest international standards and established good practices.

The discussion took place in the framework of a special mission of a team of OSCE-ODIHR experts who are visiting the country in the period 27 May – 2 June this year to assess the preparations for the European Parliament elections.

During their visit, the OSCE-ODIHR experts also held meetings with members of the Central Electoral Commission, representatives of other institutions related to the preparation of the European Parliament elections, as well as with representatives of civil society, the media and political parties that have nominated candidates for the European Parliament.
