Meeting of the Permanent Secretary Svetlan Stoev with representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe

On 23 May 2024, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev received representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The upcoming early elections for the National Assembly and the European Parliament on 9 June this year in the Republic of Bulgaria were discussed.

The meeting was held within the framework of the OSCE-ODIHR Election Observation and Assessment Mission to Bulgaria from 22 May to 14 June.

Mr. Stoev briefed the OSCE-ODIHR representatives on the tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in organizing the electoral process outside the country. He highlighted the efforts to ensure that all Bulgarian citizens abroad have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. He underlined the determination and the availability of the necessary legal framework and expert resources for free and fair elections. In this context, he noted the importance of the international observation of the elections and the commitment of the Republic of Bulgaria to the cooperation with OSCE-ODIHR. He highlighted the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide the necessary assistance to the international observers.
