At a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Seoul on 26 April 2024, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Korea H. E. Petar Kraytchev presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Korea H. E. Yoon Suk Yeol.

In his address to President Yoon, Ambassador Kraytchev thanked for the generous hospitality and the opportunity to participate in the credentials ceremony. He said that the dynamic and promising start of his mission in the Republic of Korea was primarily due to the way the country of accreditation had welcomed him and his family. The Bulgarian ambassador stressed that he is ready to do whatever is in his power for an increasingly recognizable rapprochement between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea in all areas of shared interest. Petar Kraytchev commented that all the necessary prerequisites and circumstances are in place — we are witnessing a rare synergy of favourable conditions and factors in bilateral, regional and global terms, which suggest the elevation of relations between Sofia and Seoul to the level of a strategic partnership. The Ambassador renewed in this sense the invitation from the President of the Republic of Bulgaria H. E. Rumen Radev to the President of the Republic of Korea H. E. Yoon Suk Yeol to visit Bulgaria.

Ambassador Petar Kraytchev took the opportunity to weave into his presentation a short history dedicated to the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He commented that the Olympics in the Republic of Korea was a memorable event, where Bulgaria took 7th place in the overall ranking and Bulgarian athletes won a total of 35 medals, 10 of which were gold — a record for the number of gold medals in the entire Olympic history of our country. The Bulgarian Ambassador shared with President Yoon his memories of the opening of the Olympic Games, which conditioned his attraction to Korean culture and traditions 36 years ago. In conclusion, Petar Kraytchev said that since his childhood he has been striving to get to know the Republic of Korea - against this background and several decades later, the opportunity to represent the Republic of Bulgaria in the Republic of Korea is not only a matter of exceptional professional honour as a career Bulgarian diplomat, but also a remarkable event in his personal and family history as a Bulgarian.
