Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev met with representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Svetlan Stoev, today received at the Foreign Ministry representatives of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The occasion for the talks was the forthcoming early elections for Members of the Bulgarian Parliament and Members of the European Parliament on 9 June.

Mr. Stoev briefed the OSCE ODIHR representatives on the tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in organizing the electoral process outside the country in order to ensure the right to vote of every Bulgarian citizen abroad. He highlighted the excellent cooperation with OSCE ODIHR, emphasized the effective work of the Bulgarian institutions and the consistent adherence of the Republic of Bulgaria to the highest international standards for holding free and fair elections.

The meeting took place in the framework of the five-day visit to Bulgaria of a team of OSCE ODIHR, headed by the Deputy Head of the Elections Department, Mr. Ulvi Akhundlu, who is in Bulgaria to assess the needs for international observation of the electoral process. The programme of the visit of the OSCE representatives included meetings with all Bulgarian institutions responsible for the conduct of the elections, with the parliamentary parties, as well as with representatives of civil society and the media.
