Mariya Gabriel: Cooperation between Bulgaria and the US is key for regional connectivity

Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel met with US Ambassadors to Bulgaria Kenneth Mertens and of Greece in USA George Tsunis, who was visiting Bulgaria. The main topic was the cooperation between Bulgaria and the USA in terms of energy and transport connectivity. The importance of the North-South axis connecting Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine was underlined.
The focus of the meeting was also the declaration signed in New York and at the initiative of Mariya Gabriel in support of regional cooperation. ‘We reaffirm our common commitment to work together for connectivity in infrastructure, transport, energy, technology and innovation to ensure a more sustainable future development for the countries in the South East Europe region. The Three Seas Initiative and the construction of the North-South corridor are of strategic importance for the region,’ the Deputy Prime Minister said.
The Deputy Prime Minister and the two ambassadors also discussed the topics of Bulgaria's strategic position in NATO regarding security in the Black Sea region and cooperation between the allies in the region.
‘I am glad that as NATO allies and strategic partners we are responding together to regional and global challenges’, Mariya Gabriel further commented.
