The Governing Board of the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats unanimously approved Bulgaria's candidature

26 May 2023 News

At its meeting held on 26 May 2023 in Helsinki, the Governing Board of the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats unanimously approved Bulgaria's candidature for accession to the Centre. A formal invitation for the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria is to be issued, after which the Minister of Foreign Affairs is to submit a notification of Bulgaria's formal accession to the Memorandum of Understanding signed at the establishment of the Centre, thus completing the formal procedure.

The European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats was established in 2017 in Helsinki. EU Member States and NATO Member States participate in the Centre, which was founded by Finland. Bulgaria's interest in accession to the Centre was further driven by the changed European security architecture, the need to enhance our country's resilience, achieve a more adequate understanding of hybrid threats and address vulnerabilities in a timely manner at national, regional and European levels.
