Deputy Minister Velislava Petrova received the Ambassador of Australia to Bulgaria Arthur Spirou, based in Athens. The meeting was on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Australia.

The main highlights of the conversation were the strengthening of political dialogue, trade, economic and investment ties, including in the context of the EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement, energy security and the role of energy innovation.

"We hope that the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations will create a strong impetus for further deepening and expanding of our bilateral ties", Deputy Minister Petrova said.

Deputy Minister Petrova and Ambassador Spiru noted that Australia is home to the largest Bulgarian community in the Asia-Pacific region, which has become a natural bridge of friendship between the two countries.

In the field of trade and economic relations, the already existing interaction in software development and outsourcing was highlighted. Both sides expressed interest in exchanging experiences and good practices in the field of energy innovation on the road to low-carbon economies.

Deputy Minister Petrova expressed gratitude for Australia's continued support on Bulgaria's path to membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. "We appreciate the valuable assistance of OECD Secretary-General Matthias Corman and count on his continued support in the process".

Ambassador Arthur Spiro expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations and reaffirmed Australia's desire to develop them with joint efforts, building on the solid traditions of 50 years of diplomatic relations.

As representatives of countries that share common values ​​and have similar positions on key international issues, the two interlocutors also noted the importance of conducting a regular political dialogue between the two countries.
