Minister Genchovska: Bulgaria will continue to support the Ukrainian people

19 April 2022 News

Bulgaria will continue to support the Ukrainian people. It is very important for Ukraine to feel that its allies and partners in the European Union and NATO, as well as the entire global democratic community, stand behind it. This is what the Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodora Genchovska said in a joint statement after the meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, who is on his first official visit to Sofia.

The two ministers discussed issues of the bilateral relations, the situation in Ukraine, as well as the Russian military aggression in the country continuing now for 55 days.

Our Foreign Minister stressed that at the moment more than 91 thousand Ukrainian citizens have been admitted to our country and 80 thousand of them have already received temporary protection. “Bulgaria continues to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine through the Bulgarian Red Cross, which amounts to over 1.5 million euros,” Minister Genchovska said. She added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had provided the Ukrainian state with 185,000 euros, which have been redirected through various international humanitarian organisations.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba thanked the Bulgarian people and government for the help they are giving to Ukrainian citizens who fled the war. “From the very beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, Bulgaria has clearly expressed and consistently provided support to our country,” he said. Dmytro Kuleba stressed that Ukraine’s security also means security for Bulgaria and for all countries in the Black Sea region.

Minister Genchovska wished the Ukrainian Foreign Minister health and strength and expressed hope that the peace in the region would soon be restored.
