27 September 2021 News

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev awarded our compatriot Adriano Sitnilski with the Golden Badge of Honour of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his dedicated work in evacuating the citizens of Republic of Bulgaria from Afghanistan, as well as for his assistance in taking out of Afganistan of a longtime employee of our embassy in Kabul and his family.

"Saving every human life is a lifelong pride, and you did it not for one person, but for many people," said Minister Stoev at the award ceremony. "You were the hope not only for them, but also for us as diplomats, so that we could help them with joint efforts."

Thanks to the assistance of Adriano Sitnilski in Kabul in August 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs successfully deported five Bulgarian citizens, one Pakistani and one Afghan citizen from Afghanistan. He kept constant contact with the evacuation units in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, providing valuable information on the possibilities of entering the airport and coordinating the evacuation on the spot. Until the last moment before he was evacuated, our compatriot also supported the efforts to take out ofrom Afganistan the local employee of our embassy in Kabul, Amruddin Hakshenas and his family.

Our Foreign Minister emphasized that saving human life, even in a troubled region, is the highest form of humanity that can be manifested. Svetlan Stoev thanked Adriano Sitnilski for his dedication in taking people out, and the latter, in turn, accepted the award, saying he would do it again if he had to return to Afghanistan.

The Golden Badge of Honor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the highest award of the Ministry for Bulgarian citizens.
