Bulgaria supports the efforts by the Middle East Quartet to renew peace talks

Statement by the Foreign Ministry spokesperson in response to the declaration adopted by the Middle East Quartet
Bulgaria supports the April 11 2012 declaration by the Middle East Quartet in which the four parties reaffirmed their commitments made on September 23 2011 and welcomed plans to restart the dialogue between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
We call on the Palestinian Authority to continue to work to improve the judicial system, and on Israel to take effective measures against violence on the West Bank. Bulgaria has condemned the rocket fire from Gaza and welcomes the call to ensure peace and security for both peoples.
We believe that until the West Bank and Gaza are united under the leadership of the legitimate Palestinian government that adheres to the commitments made by the PLO, the situation around Gaza will be unstable.
We support and add our voice to the Quartet's call to both parties to avoid actions that undermine trust and to concentrate on constructive efforts to stabilise the situation and open the way for a resumption of negotiations based on the September 23 2011 declaration.
