Minister Vigenin to participate in the 20th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)

06 December 2013 - 05 December 2013 Diplomatic Calendar

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin will participate in the 20th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which will be held on 5-6 December 2013 in Kyiv under the Ukrainian Chairmanship.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is a unique regional security organization with 57 participating states (all European countries, including the USSR successors and the United States, Canada and Mongolia). In terms of number of participants and territorial scope, OSCE is the largest regional organization with expertise in the field of security, covering the Euro-Atlantic and the Eurasian community "from Vancouver to Vladivostok" and it cooperates with its Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia) and Asian partners (Japan, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Afghanistan and Australia).

The OSCE Ministerial Meeting is a major platform for voicing national positions on current issues in the field of international security. For the EU member states, USA, Canada, Norway, Switzerland, etc., OSCE is a very important pan-European stage for high-level dialogue with Russia and the CIS countries on issues of human rights and democratization.

The discussion of the foreign ministers in Kyivwill focus on the adoption of the political declaration on the "Helsinki +40" process, in order to identify concrete steps to optimize the  OSCE role as a regional security organization in Europe.
