Accident in the North Sea

06 December 2012

On December 5 at about 6.15pm, about 45 miles from Rotterdam, two ships – the Baltic Ace and the Corvus J – collided in the North Sea. As a result of the collision, the Baltic Ace sank.

Rescue operations involving coastal patrol vessels and helicopters started immediately, but activities were hampered by bad weather. At this time, information is that four sailors died and seven are missing. According to the Bulgarian Embassy in The Hague, the crew of the Baltic Ace included a Bulgarian citizen, Todor Demerdzhiev. He was among the 13 sailors rescued and is in good health.
