Kristian Vigenin: The Fulbright Program provides an opportunity to the nations to learn how to live in peace and friendship

04 November 2013 News

The Fulbright Program brings knowledge and worth, as well as compassion in the international affairs, and thus, it provides an opportunity to the nations to learn finally how to live in peace and friendship. I am glad that Bulgaria is part of this unique with its spirit program for exchange not only of scientists, experts, graduate students, teachers, headmasters and professionals, but also of ideas, culture and vision of performances in a world of various challenges. With these words Minister Kristian Vigenin welcomed the guests to the official celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Bulgarian- American Fulbright Commission for Educational Exchange, held in Sofia today.

Minister Vigenin recalled that this year we mark the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the USA. "Along with the political dimension and the thematic diversity of the dialogue between the two countries, at the foundation of our cooperation lies the desire for closer ties between the Bulgarian and the American people. With no doubt, such a close, understanding and valued reciprocity in the relations on a solely human level is not possible without the ongoing cultural and educational exchange. As a testimony for this serves the success of the program and the commission in Bulgaria in recent years," he said.

According to the foreign minister, Fulbright is not just a program but a whole community - a process of continuous interaction and building on the achievements to date. Fulbright is an idea whose intransientcharacter lies at the foundation of our efforts to achieve even stronger, ingenuous, valuable and effective communication, " KristianVigenin said."It is gratifying that the second bilateral agreement between Bulgaria and the United States on the activities of the commission, signed on 3 December 2003, is permanent which provides an unlimited resource of time for future success and festive moments like the one today," he said in conclusion.
