25 October 2013 News

"The Bulgarian government defines the relations with China as a priority within the whole range of areas of cooperation that are important for our two countries . These relations have the nature of a strategic partnership , which is confirmed by the fact that they are not limited to the economic sphere." This was said by Minister Kristian Vigenin at a meeting today with the new Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bulgaria Wei Jinghua .

"Bulgaria and China are good friends and reliable partners. Over the past 64 years since the establishment of the bilateral relations, regardless of the changes in the international environment, our relations are facing stable and successful development, " said Ambassador Jinghua.

Bulgarian foreign minister and the Chinese Ambassador expressed their common desire to intensify the political dialogue at a high level and to enhance the practical cooperation between the two countries both at a central level and between the local authorities. As important steps in this direction, they mentioned the recent visit of the Bulgarian Prime Minister Oresharski in China and the forthcoming visit of the President of the National Assembly Mihail Mikov .

"China is our main economic partner in Asia and we can already give positive examples of successful Chinese investments in Bulgaria ," said Kristian Vigenin . For his part , Ambassador Jinghua defined some areas of interest for the Chinese business such as agriculture, energy and infrastructure. The two shared the opinion that further efforts should be made in order to promote the bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism , where there is still untapped potential.

Minister Vigenin emphasized that Bulgaria will actively participate in the initiatives of the PRC aimed at expanding the contacts with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in those within the framework of the China – EU strategic partnership. "I believe that as a close friend of China, our country has its role in shaping these relations," he said.
