The new Bulgarian ambassadors toIreland and the Vatican attended hearings todayby the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly atthe initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, KristianVigenin.

This practice will be applied to all newly appointed AmbassadorsExtraordinary and Plenipotentiary who are to depart on foreign deployments. Theywill have to present their priorities and demonstrate knowledge of the host country and Bulgaria’sbilateral relationship with its.

Members of Parliament who are members of the Foreign Affairs Committeetoday heard the newly appointed Bulgarian ambassadors to Ireland,Branimir Zaimov, and ProfessorKiril Topalov, Ambassador to the Vatican.

Ambassador Zaimov presented his priorities and the highlights of Bulgarian-Irish relations. The twocountries traditionally co-operatewithin the EU, and thisshould be improved and further developed, he said. Bulgaria can draw onthe experience of Dublin inthe rotating EU presidency in the first half of this year in preparation for the Bulgarian Presidency in 2018

Professor Kiril Topalov focusedon the most important tasks ahead in his job as ambassador to the Vatican. He emphasised the importance of relations with the Holy See in the field of international relations, support for cultural and religious dialogue, and last but not least, the fullest life forthe Bulgarian Orthodox community in Rome. AmbassadorTopalov dwelt on the need for solve the issue of the church provided by the Roman curiafor the needs of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in the Italian capital.
