Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Marin Raykov spoke with the Prime Minister of Greece

26 April 2013 News

Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Marin Raykov held a telephone conversation with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. They discussed the recent problems with the passage of Bulgarian vehicles through the Zlatograd-Xanthi border checkpoint. Marin Raykov expressed Bulgaria’s concern about the situation that had occurred after the trouble-free functioning of the checkpoint since its opening three years ago.

“I hope that the best will be done to facilitate the normal movement of vehicles and increase the tonnage, especially given the upcoming Easter holidays and the expected increase in the flow of tourists,” the Bulgarian Prime Minister said. Antonis Samaras pledged to investigate the problem and find a solution as quickly as possible.

The two Prime Ministers also discussed work on the Makaza Nymfaia (Kurdjali – Komotini) border checkpoint. The Greek Prime Minister assured his Bulgarian counterpart that the road connecting the checkpoint with the city of Komotini would be ready within the next three months.
