Bulgaria supports the initiative of Switzerland and Ukraine for the first Peace Summit in Ukraine

17 May 2024 News

Bulgaria supports the initiative of Switzerland and Ukraine to convene the first Peace Summit in Ukraine. On this occasion, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev met with Ambassador of Ukraine Olesya Ilashchuk and Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation Raymund Furrer.

The forum, to be held on 15—16 June in Switzerland, should define a clear roadmap based on the principles of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s ‘Formula for Peace’ initiative, the UN Charter and international law. President Zelensky's initiative is a conceptual plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace based on preserving Ukraine's territorial integrity. Bulgaria participates in 4 of the relevant working groups of the initiative — on ‘Food Security’, ‘Energy Security’ and ‘Restorative Justice’, and as co-chair on ‘Environmental Security’, together with Germany and Finland.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev was adamant that our country will continue to support Ukraine in its just cause to defend its right to freedom and independence and to independently choose its own security guarantees. Bulgaria remains fully committed to a strong and united response by NATO, the European Union and the international democratic community to Russian military aggression against Ukraine. The political contacts between Bulgaria and Ukraine are active and take place both at bilateral level and within various international formats.
