The Deputy Prime Minister met in Los Angeles with a business delegation from the state of Utah and representatives of the Bulgarian IT industry from Silicon Valley
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs met with a business delegation from the State of Utah. The delegation was led by Jonathan Freedman, President and CEO of the World Trade Center in Utah. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Bulgarian IT industry from Silicon Valley.
Utah is among the top states for IT employment and leads the rankings for fastest-growing regions in terms of new tech industry jobs. There are over 9,300 technology businesses in the state. Utah's remarkable advancements in innovation and the IT industry is the reason the Lehi region has been given the name "Silicon Slopes." Also in recent years, Utah has been competing with Hollywood for a leadership position in the American film industry.
The USA is among the main destinations for Bulgarian high-tech products with about 10% of total sales on foreign markets. "Promoting trade and economic cooperation is at the heart of the cooperation between Bulgaria and the US. Bulgaria is a reliable partner, a factor for stability in South-Eastern Europe and a regional innovation hub," Mariya Gabriel said.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Bulgaria has a dynamic technological ecosystem. "The Bulgarian market is an attractive investment destination for US companies. It offers a stable macroeconomic environment, strategic location and highly skilled professionals. As strategic partners, the two countries continue to expand our cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as trade and investment, information technology and innovation."
The meeting in Los Angeles is expected to be followed by a visit of an American business delegation to Bulgaria at the invitation of Mariya Gabriel.
