On 30 September 2023, an Open Day was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was initiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel and was held under the theme "Rediscover the world of diplomacy".

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being here today and by your presence we are sending a strong message together to reinvent the world of diplomacy", this is what Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel addressed the visitors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the beginning of the Open Day.

"Diplomacy is a cause to defend national interests, a cause to give solutions to challenges peacefully. We all know that we have had bright moments in history when the most difficult situations were resolved through diplomacy. Today, looking at the world around us, I am sure there is a need for more diplomacy", Gabriel added.

"Diplomacy brings together tradition and the new. This year marks the 144th anniversary of the Bulgarian diplomatic service. Let us all together, valuing our traditions, culture and history, look to the future with more confidence, with more knowledge. And when we talk about diplomacy, it should be linked to the light of knowledge", the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out.

Maria Gabriel thanked all the Bulgarian ambassadors, many of whom were present at the event. She noted that diplomacy has its difficult moments and the people who work in the Foreign Ministry know this best. "There is, however, no greater satisfaction than to have contributed to peace with your work, to the protection of the national interest, to all of us living in a better, more peaceful and fairer world, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.

She did not fail to note that together we can make the diplomatic service modern and dynamic.

During the open day, the residents and guests of the capital had the opportunity to visit the conference rooms, the collection of fine art and the Minister's office, where they could talk personally with Maria Gabriel and take photos. The little guests had the opportunity to sit in the chair of the number one diplomat under the motto: "When I grow up, I want to be foreign minister." A "Treasure Hunt" game was organised for them in the garden of the ministry and their prizes were awarded by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel.

For the visitors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was open the so-called. Black marble - a lobby through which hundreds of official foreign delegations have passed. At specially prepared stands the guests could get a closer look at the work of different directorates of the institution.

Lectures on foreign policy topics and a short course on protocol and etiquette were also included in the event programme. The Open Day of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was attended by over 600 guests.
