Today at BTA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Diplomatic Institute and the State Cultural Institute presented their work on the Strategic Cooperation between Bulgaria and Norway in Support of Bulgaria's International Commitments to Combat Anti-Semitism and Preserve the Jewish Heritage project. In a video address, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Velislava Petrova, highlighted the importance of the project as part of Bulgaria's commitments in the fight against Anti-Semitism. “More generally, the work on the project is also an opportunity to raise public awareness of the Bulgarian state's efforts to prevent and combat all forms of hate speech, discrimination and intolerance”, said Deputy Minister Velislava Petrova.

The project is implemented with Grants under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. The Norwegian partner in the project is the Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies.

The main goal of the project is to prepare a National Action Plan to Combat Anti-Semitism and Preserve the Jewish Heritage. The plan will be prepared by experts from various departments, academia and the non-governmental sector. A number of other activities are planned within the project, including the establishment of a research network on the Holocaust and Anti-Semitism, publications and scientific forums, cultural and educational events and others.

During the event were presented the results of the first completed project activity - conducting a nationally representative sociological survey on Public attitudes towards Anti-Semitism and hate speech in Bulgaria and a survey on the same issues among the Jewish community, conducted by Alpha Research. The results of the study will serve as a starting point for the development of the National Action Plan to Combat Anti-Semitism and Preserve the Jewish Heritage.
