Bulgaria supports the European perspective of Kosovo (Nikolay Mladenov)

15 October 2010 News

Bulgaria expressed its support for the European perspective of Kosovo during the working visit of the Minister for European Integration of Kosovo, Besim Beqaj, to Sofia. The main focus of the talks held with Minister Nikolay Mladenov, was Bulgaria’s support for the European perspective of Kosovo, as well as the possibility for Bulgaria to help provide input—due to its experience with the negotiation process for EU accession and the first years of full EU membership. Minister Beqaj expressed high appreciation for the Bulgarian experience. Signing a framework document on the cooperation process is pending. The two ministers discussed the possibility to liberalise visa arrangements for Kosovo citizens within EU member states. The upcoming dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, under the auspices of the EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, was also discussed.

The working visit took place upon the invitation of the Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantin Dimitrov, and included (political and expert) meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the administration of the Council of Ministers, and NGOs.
