Bulgaria is looking for new youth delegates to the UN

14 March 2021 News

Two youth delegates to the UN will be selected through a national competition organized by the UN Association in Bulgaria with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They will represent the voice of young people in Bulgaria and will defend their interests at the highest intergovernmental level for 18 months - from July 2021 to December 2022. The elected applicants will become part of our country's delegation to the UN General Assembly and in the Commission for Social Development of the UN Economic and Social Council, and will be able to work on UN decisions on youth with rights comparable to those of an accredited diplomat. The delegates will have different responsibilities at national and international level, and their work will be mainly related to youth policies and current topics and challenges for Bulgarian youth.

The competition starts on March 15 and is open to all Bulgarian citizens between the ages of 18 and 29. Requirements include English language skills, knowledge of UN youth work and sharing the organization's values.

Anyone wishing to apply or nominate a suitable candidate can do so until 23:59 on April 16, 2021 at the following link:

Bulgaria is a proven leader in youth inclusion at the international level with 15 years of established practice. In 2020, the good national example was strengthened, as our country was one of the few UN member states that gave its youth delegates the opportunity to speak virtually on behalf of Bulgarian youth during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.
