Bulgaria, the European Commission and the European Parliament - partners in communication with the citizens of Europe

01 October 2012 News

Co-operation between the Bulgarian Government, the European Commission and the European Parliament is of strategic importance given the important themes to be discussed and that will determine the policy of Europe for the next few years, Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov said at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on strategic partnership in communication with the citizens of Europe.

Among the topics most important to Bulgaria on the European agenda, Minister Mladenov highlighted the negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework and policy towards the Western Balkans, where Bulgaria has its greatest responsibility. He emphasised that it was essential to have public initiatives through which Bulgarian society could be kept informed of Bulgaria’s positions, opportunities and projects regarding these debates.

Only clear and transparent communication would retain and enhance citizens’ confidence in the EU, and also their national institutions, according to Zinadia Zlatanova, head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria. We are combining our efforts towards greater awareness of, and public access to, everything connected with the EU and the European agenda, said Violeta Stanicic, head of the European Parliament Information Office in Bulgaria.
