Bulgaria expects that co-operation with France will be more intensive

17 May 2012 News

We need to give new impetus to political dialogue and co-operation between France and Bulgaria, both in bilateral relations and within the EU, Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Naydenov said at a meeting with Mr. Simon Syutur, chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the French Senate, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria.

France is a very important strategic partner for Bulgaria, Deputy Minister Naydenov said, adding that co-operation between Bulgaria and France on issues on the European agenda should be more intensive.

Deputy Minister Naydenov dwelt on this country’s main priorities: Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area, the Cohesion Policy, Common Agricultural Policy and Bulgaria’s position on the EU’s multi-annual budgetary framework.

France will continue to support Bulgaria's accession to Schengen, Senator Syutur said. He emphasised that a reduction of assistance from EU cohesion funds was uncalled-for and said that there should be a more precise balance in the allocation of funds among the regions.
