It is already a year that the Syrian people have been victims of Assad
This was said in Parliament today by Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov during debate on the adoption of a resolution on the situation in Syria.
“For a year now, the Syrian people have been paying for their lawful pursuit of dignity and security with the lives of thousands of civilians. President Bashar al-Assad’s regime has proved to be unable to protect the fundamental rights of its own citizens,” the Foreign Minister emphasised.
“Bulgaria is an active participant in the joint efforts by European, Arab countries and the entire international community, aimed at protecting the fundamental rights of the Syrian people and universal values, including the inherent right to life and liberty. Our position must be stated from the highest platform, the Bulgarian Parliament,” Minister Mladenov said.
The National Assembly adopted, with 135 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions, the declaration condemning violence in Syria and supporting the strengthening of pressure on the regime.
