In a letter to Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov, the Director of the OSCE Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Janez Lenarčič, has expressed gratitude and appreciation for the position and actions of the Bulgarian Government after the events in Katunitsa in September this year.
The organization welcomes the steps taken by law and order institutions to restore public order and to prevent ethnic conflicts.
"ODIHR appreciates the clear and unambiguous position of the Government of Bulgaria, as well as political, religious and community leaders, in connection with the violence in Katunitsa village. Swift action and co-operation with the Roma community after the incident are crucial to counter the escalation of such tension,” the letter said.
