Commenting on the European Parliament resolution on the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen visa zone, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov said:

“We welcome the adoption by a large majority of the European Parliament of the resolution on the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen, by which - for the second time - the EP confirmed the readiness of both sides to guarantee the security of the EU’s external borders.
“In the light of this new categorical decision by the representatives of the peoples of the member states, we call on all EU countries to reflect on their positions. We expect the European Council, at its meeting later this month, to decide on the acceptance of both countries into the Schengen visa zone without further delay, on the basis of the acquis and the rules and procedures of Schengen.”
