First joint meeting of the governments of Bulgaria and Romania

12 October 2011 News

The first joint Bulgarian-Romanian government meeting was held in Bucharest on October 12 2011.

The delegations of the two countries were led by their respective Prime Ministers, Boyko Borissov and Emil Boc. The two prime ministers signed a joint political declaration establishing a High-Level Co-operation Council between Bulgaria and Romania. This document raises to a higher level the partnership of the two countries within the framework of the EU, and in co-operation in economy, defence and security, culture, education and science.

After the meeting, Prime Ministers Borissov and Boc made a joint statement on behalf of their governments expressing their expectation that the European Council would make a positive decision to include Bulgaria and Romania in the Schengen visa zone without further delay.
