Bulgaria and Wallonia-Brussels signed work programme

19 December 2012 - 20 December 2012 Diplomatic Calendar

At the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the fifth work programme (2013 to 2015) between the governments of Bulgaria and Wallonia, the French Community in the Kingdom of Belgium and the French Community Commission of the Brussels-Capital Region was signed in Sofia on December 20 2012. The document was signed by Hristo Georgiev, head of the European Countries Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Charles-Etienne Lagasse, General Inspector and Director of the General Directorate for Bilateral Relations of Wallonie-Bruxelles.

The three-year programme, which includes specific projects, will boost bilateral co-operation in areas important to the countries, such as science, innovation, cultural diversity, social work, inter-university exchanges, the leaders of the two delegations said. They expressed their satisfaction with the programme because it will produce concrete results and will support and enrich the work of government institutions and research organisations. Interaction within the framework of the EU, UNESCO, and the International Organisation of La Francophonie are important elements of the co-operation over the next three years. Special emphasis was given to the assistance that Wallonia and Brussels will give to Bulgaria in the commemoration in Belgium of the 70th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during World War 2 as well as in the 20th anniversary of Bulgaria’s membership of the International Organisation of La Francophonie.
