Ambassador Panayotov presented the achievements of the Bulgaria-led Bureau of the Conference whose work was praised by Member States, NGO’s and the civil society.

Bulgaria was elected member of the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2019-2021 period during the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Our country received the support of 180 of a total of 188 UN Member States that attended the vote and voted. Bulgaria ranked fifth among the 18 candidate countries for HRC membership and shared the first spot with Italy among the EU candidate countries.

Many members of the Group stressed the importance of having more children participating in the event.

“As a member of the European Union, Bulgaria hopes that there will soon be a uniform visa-free regime for all EU member states.” This was said by Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov during a meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns in Washington DC yesterday.
