Ambassador Karadjova emphasized that the issue of children’s rights is among Bulgaria’s top priorities both globally and nationally. Within the United Nations, Bulgaria actively promotes the protection of the rights of the child through its work as co-chair (together with Luxembourg and Jamaica) of the Group of Friends of Children and the Sustainable Development Goals. Ambassador Karadjova also highlighted the fruitful cooperation with UNICEF in organizing the newly established International Day of Play, which has been marked over the past two years.

“Bulgaria was a member of the UNICEF Executive Board during the period 2023–2025, which further strengthened the country’s commitment to the protection of children, as well as its cooperation with the Fund. In 2024, Bulgaria served as Vice-President of the Bureau,” the Permanent Representative underlined.

Ambassador Karadjova further noted that the UNICEF office in Sofia successfully supports Bulgarian institutions and the NGO sector in areas such as early childhood development, inclusive education, support for vulnerable children and families, and access to justice.
