Exhibition and concert at the Consulate General in New York on the occasion of the Bulgarian National Revival Day

The Consulate General New York celebrated the Bulgarian National Revival Day with the exhibition "Emotional Heritage", an interdisciplinary project with the special participation of the violinist Dr. Blagomira Lipari and the artist Kina Bagovska. The project presents the unique Bulgarian folk motifs and uneven rhythms, combined with classical traditions in art.

An event at the Consulate General in New York on the development of the Bulgarian startup ecosystem

An event on development of the Bulgarian startup ecosystem and entrepreneurial spirit, took place at the Consulate General in New York. It was organized by representatives of The Bridge and LAUNCHub Ventures and brought together dozens of representatives of the Bulgarian community in New York and the surrounding area. The participants were interested in learning more about entrepreneurial activities and investment opportunities in Bulgaria. Nikola Likov and Alexandra Todorova, representing the organizers, made intriguing presentations to address the interests of the Bulgarian community in New York. Both are young and very successful Bulgarians who work towards identifying and supporting promising Bulgarian start-ups.

Commemoration in New York of the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Israel

The Bulgarian Consul General in New York, Angel Angelov, took part in the commemoration of the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks by Hamas against Israel, which took place in Park East Synagogue. About 600 people attended the Jewish temple. During the approximately two-hour ceremony, statements were made by the Israeli Consul General, the senior rabbi of the synagogue, the executive director of the Israel-American Council, as well as families directly affected by the attacks. There was also a musical program, and the ceremony was preceded by the presentation of an exhibition dedicated to the tragedy. The main organizers were the Consul General of Israel and the Israeli-American Council, who partnered with the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the La'Aretz Foundation.

Honoring Yulia Navalnaya with 2024 Athenagoras Human Rights Award

At a ceremony on October 19, 2014 the widow of Alexei Navalny, received from the Order of St. Andrew to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of America Athenagoras Human Rights Award. The award was presented by His Eminence the American Archbishop and Exarch of the Atlantic and Pacific Elpidophorus. The ceremony was attended by over 600 guests, incl. some of the most prominent representatives of the Greek community in the United States. The Consul General of Bulgaria in New York Angel Angelov, for the second year in a row, was given the honor of being seated at the presidium, together with the highest-ranking guests, incl. Archbishop Elpidophorus and Yulia Navalnaya.

Consul General in New York Angel Angelov visited BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, the largest Hindu temple in the USA (and the second largest in the world), symbolizing Indian culture and spirituality, and noted the existence of a strong connection between the temple and Bulgaria.

Gold medal for a Bulgarian student from an international mathematics Olympiad at Columbia University in New York

Hristo Balarev, an eighth grader at Paisii Hilendarski Mathematical High School in Sofia, won a gold medal in mathematics at the Copernicus Olympiad, the final round of which takes place in New York between July 15 and 18. The award ceremony took place on July 18, 2024 in the Columbia University.

Bulgarian cultural events in New York

During the months of May-June 2024, the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York and the Bulgarian community in the northeastern states of the USA organized various cultural and educational events. Among them are: - May 1 - The emblematic cultural initiative for the Bulgarian community, Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York, celebrated its 20th anniversary with a concert. The central role was played by the world-famous musicians Bela Hristova (violin), Lora Chekoratova (piano) and Anna Stoycheva (piano). The Consul General in New York, Angel Angelov, together with the founders of the American Foundation for Bulgaria (Diko Mihov and Ted Vassilev) were recognized by the Initiative for their contribution to Bulgarian culture and art and received honorary plaques.
