11 February 2025 News

Over the past week, the team at the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York actively participated in several business-related events, fostering connections and collaboration opportunities.

On February 4, the Bulgarian Consul General Angel Angelov and newly appointed trade and commercial representative at the Consulate General Emilia Keresteliev attended a reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York at the Harvard Club. The event, celebrating the Year of the Snake, gathered approximately 400 guests, including business leaders, academics, cultural representatives, and diplomats. Notable attendees included the Permanent Representative of China to the UN, and the Regional Director of the Office of Foreign Missions at the U.S. Department of State. The event's host, Maisie Ho, highlighted Hong Kong’s robust trade relations with the U.S. The Bulgarian diplomats established contact with the Director of the Representation, expressing interest in further collaboration.

On February 5, the entire Consulate General team attended a networking event for Bulgarian professionals in New York. Dozens of Bulgarians from diverse industries convened in Manhattan to exchange experiences and contacts. The Consul General engaged with new members of the community, extending invitations to participate in the Consulate’s regular events, particularly those aimed at strengthening professional ties among Bulgarians in the city.

On February 6, the Consul General met with Silvia Taseva, founder and coach of Manhattan Rhythmics, a rhythmic gymnastics club in New York. A former elite gymnast and coach, Taseva shared insights into establishing a successful rhythmic gymnastics club in the U.S., where the sport remains relatively niche. The discussion explored opportunities for Bulgarian children to train at her facilities and the possibility of expanding with a new location. Potential collaborations with the Consulate were also discussed.

These engagements reinforced the Consulate’s commitment to supporting Bulgarian entrepreneurs and professionals. Plans were initiated to organize a series of business-focused events at the Consulate General, spotlighting Bulgarian entrepreneurs across various industries.
