On the day of the Nativity of Christ, the Holy Liturgy was celebrated in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" in New York by His Eminence Joseph, Metropolitan of the USA, Canada and Australia. The Vicar Bishop Kliment, who arrived in New York from Mount Athos a few days ago, also took part in the service.
The Consul General in New York, Angel Angelov, who was invited to greet the worshipers, also reminded of the historical unifying role of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, as well as its contribution to the preservation of the Bulgarian national identity, spirit and statehood. In particular, he stressed the Church’s role in saving Bulgarian Jews during World War II, the contribution of Metropolitan Joseph to the unification of the Bulgarian community in the United States, the passing of His Holiness Patriarch Neophyte and the assumption of leadership of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church by His Holiness Daniil, Patriarch of Bulgaria and Metropolitan of Sofia.
The cathedral was filled with visitors for the Divine Liturgy, after which the traditional Christmas celebration at the church took place.
