Welcome to the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in The Hague, the Kingdom of the Netherlands!
Diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the Netherlands were established in 1909, interrupted after the Second World War, and restored in 1965. Since 1968, the diplomatic missions of both countries have been elevated to the rank of embassies. Over the years, our two countries have developed an open and constructive political dialogue, supported by active parliamentary cooperation and a continuous exchange of views on issues of shared interest. The Netherlands has consistently encouraged Bulgaria’s efforts to integrate into the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), while our partnership within the European Union, NATO, and the United Nations provides a strong foundation for joint action and mutual support.
Our bilateral cooperation spans a wide range of areas, including security and defence, the economy, education, and culture. We work closely together to strengthen European security, advance innovation and modern technologies, promote sustainable resource management, and create new opportunities for business and investment. Active exchanges between universities, cultural institutions, and local communities contribute to greater mutual understanding between our peoples. The Bulgarian community in the Netherlands plays an important role as a natural bridge of friendship and cooperation between our two nations.
