26 September 2024 News

Bulgaria successfully participated in the European Day of Languages organised by the EU Representation in Stockholm.

This year's edition of the initiative was held on September 24, and the Bulgarian participation in the initiative was organized by the Bulgarian Embassy in Stockholm, with the help of the Bulgarian language and history teacher at the Bulgarian school in the Swedish capital - Lyubomira Miticheva, as well as the volunteer from the Bulgarian community in Sweden Ivet Kotseva. We are grateful for their active participation and support in representing Bulgaria in the event.

The Embassy made a short presentation of the basics of the Bulgarian language and the Cyrillic alphabet, the Bulgarian history and cultural heritage, while also using some interactive methods, short questions, key phrases in Bulgarian. The opportunities for tourism were also promoted. The Bulgarian language lessons gathered the interest of hundreds of students throughout the day, who also tried to write their names in Bulgarian.

In total, more than 600 students took part in this year's European Day of Languages initiative, with other European countries such as Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Israel taking part in addition to EU Member States. The event was highly appreciated by both participants and organisers.

The European Day of Languages was initiated by the Council of Europe with the support of the European Union and has been celebrated since 2001, the European Year of Languages. The aim of the celebration is to promote language learning in Europe and to foster intercultural understanding.
