Screening of the documentary "Vaklush" directed by Nikolay Vassilev

On April 17, 2024, at the Consulate General in New York, the documentary "Vaklush" directed by Nikolay Vassilev was broadcast.

The Consul General Angel Angelov welcomed the guests and the creator of the film, who is already known to our New York community from 2022 with his film “Theo's Formula”, dedicated to the remarkable Bulgarian physics teacher Teodosiy Teodosiev. The director Nikolay Vassilev expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Consulate General for the assistance and hospitality provided.

After the closing subtitles, the audience participated in a improvised discussion with the creator of "Vaklush" about the spiritual messages in the film.

The documentary was shot in the period 1998-2022 and contains previously unseen archival footage from the life of the famous spiritual leader Vaklush Tolev. It is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of his birth and is a story about the life path and ideas of one of Bulgaria's most enigmatic personalities.

Nikolay Vassilev is a scriptwriter and director. He is the winner of the Jameson Award (2010) for his film "Tales". In his creative biography, there are dozens more award-winning films such as "The Good Samaritan", "The Road to Thebes", "High", "The Good Hell", "Spare Wings", "Sunset". In 2019, the film "Theo's Formula", dedicated to the famous physics teacher from Kazanlak - Teodosi Teodosiev, was released. In 2021, Nikolay Vassilev presented "Being the Master", a portrait of Vladimir Dimitrov the Master, as well as "Gladiator", dedicated to the two-time Olympic champion Boyan Radev.

"Vaklush" ranks second on the National Film Center's list of the most-watched documentary of the decade. So far, it has been selected to participate in 13 festivals around the world. There are already 8 awards from America, France, India and Sweden.
