An event to Mark Ted Popoff's Contribution to Promoting the Bulgarian Culture in New York

16 November 2023 News

On November 14, 2023, the Consulate General hosted an event dedicated to Ted Popoff's contribution to the promotion of Bulgarian culture in New York. The event was organized jointly with the Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York and the American Foundation for Bulgaria.

In an informal conversation moderated by Stani Dimitrova, Ted talked about his interesting life, focusing on his work as an engineer in different parts of the world, his emigration to the US in the 1970s (through Cuba, Mexico and Greece) and his work in rebuilding and stabilizing the underground structures of the World Trade Center in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

The love for classical music runs throughout Ted's life, from his first violin lessons as a child in the late 1930s, through the sadness for his broken violin in the army in the 1950s, and his contribution as volunteer at a musical center in Massachusetts in the 1990s, to his current support for the Bulgarian musicians in New York.

The talk was followed by a musical performance by Anna Stoicheva, piano, and Stani Dimitrova, violin, in honor of Ted Popoff, and an informal cocktail.
