Ambassador Tihomir Stoytchev met with Stephen Doughty, Minister of State for Europe, North America and the Overseas Territories in the Foreign Office.
The two expressed satisfaction with the state of bilateral relations. The outcomes of the UK-EU Summit were discussed as a key element in the reset of relations. The concluded Security and Defense Partnership provides also a framework for the development of bilateral cooperation.
Special attention was given to the excellent cooperation between Bulgaria and the UK in the field of home affairs and the fight against illegal migration, as well as to the UK government’s proposals for a new sanctions regime targeting individuals and organized groups involved in illegal migration.
Bulgaria was acknowledged as one of the first countries to allow British citizens to use e-gates at airports, which is expected to encourage tourism.
Bulgaria and the UK are successfully developing a partnership in the areas of cybersecurity, countering disinformation, and addressing hybrid threats, with Bulgaria serving as an example of practical cooperation in the field of strategic communications.
Among the topics discussed were the positive reports from the European Commission and the European Central Bank regarding Bulgaria's fulfillment of the criteria for joining the Eurozone.
Both sides expressed their agreement on continuing the active political dialogue through exchanges of visits at all levels.
