Welcome to the homepage of the Embassy of Bulgaria in London. Our goal is to offer insights into the work of the Embassy and the activities of the large Bulgarian community in the United Kingdom.

Our two nations share a history of diplomatic relations spanning over 145 years, evolving into a robust partnership after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Today, Bulgaria and the United Kingdom are united by shared democratic values, which are at the heart of the Euro-Atlantic community. The signing of the Joint Declaration in October 2023 marked a new phase in our bilateral relations, elevating our cooperation to a strategic partnership based on mutual trust, respect, and productive collaboration.

In today’s complex international landscape, Bulgaria and the UK remain close partners in tackling pressing global challenges, including regional security, illegal migration, and emerging hybrid threats. Our collaboration extends across key areas: foreign affairs, security and defense, home affairs, justice, trade and economy, technology and innovation, culture, education, healthcare, and tourism. As a member of NATO and a committed partner in Southeast Europe, Bulgaria plays a crucial role in promoting stability, connectivity, and cooperation in the region.

One of our key priorities is to familiarize the British public with Bulgaria’s rich contributions to world cultural heritage. Situated at the crossroads of civilizations, Bulgaria has preserved and promoted the work of St. Cyril and St. Methodius, becoming a center for the Cyrillic Alphabet and Slavic literature. We are pleased to see a growing interest in Bulgarian history, culture, and traditions among British citizens, and we will continue to foster stronger people-to-people ties.

Hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians live and work in the United Kingdom, contributing to British society while keeping Bulgaria’s traditions alive. We remain committed to supporting the educational, cultural, and community initiatives of our fellow countrymen, from schools and churches to media outlets, as they nurture the next generation and strengthen the connection with our homeland.

As the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Court of St. James’s, I am deeply committed to advancing our multifaceted relations with the United Kingdom. Together, with your invaluable support, we will continue to enhance Bulgarian-British friendship and partnership.
